Whale skull in sterling silver
Made by The Lost Apostle.
Being on Nantucket, I feel these beautiful whale skulls are such a fitting tribute to these majestic creatures. Here in sterling silver. This from the designer:
"I've got a thing for whales. Always have ever since seeing the first one as a kid made me drop my ice cream. I saw another one 2 weeks ago and would have dropped my ice cream again if I was holding one. I drop everything for whales.
The whale skull measures 46mm high (not including the jump ring) by 20mm at its widest point. It is completely hand carved, and cast in the finest white bronze. I then plate it thickly with sterling silver, oxidize the skull to bring out all those details, and finally give it a very careful final polish to a mirror shine. It's a big job.
This is my tribute to one of the most amazing creatures on the planet. It's a very carefully detailed reproduction of a Blue Whale skull, and if you look closely you'll see I've included all the air passages that not only help this big guy do his thing while he's a million miles underwater, but also make for a stunning piece of jewelry. The back of the skull is also true to how it appears in nature, and the long cleft that runs down the front of the skull has got something to do with the almighty racket he makes while he's tooling about in the deep. I've added a spiraling design to the flanks to give it a Lost Apostle thumbprint. I think it works pretty well.
This whale skull is hung on an 18" antique silver plated chain.
Hold on to those ice creams..."
